Periyar Inn Homestay

Authentic Kerala homestay located in the Western Ghats mountain range in India's main spice growing area, Kumily, only 800 metres from Thekkady Forest and Periyar Tiger Reserve

Welcome to Periyar Inn Homestay

We are local family who since mid-2015 have been inviting tourists to experience our homestay. We speak Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and English, and welcome people of all nationalities. Our family is a modern Kerala nuclear family where Bincy is a yoga teacher and expert in the Kerala cuisine, and is responsible for running the homestay. Jobin works for the Government in nearby Kattappana, and Avinas and Ayana go to the local school. Our family

Periyar Inn Homestay is located on Bypass Road in Kumily. As Kumily Town is of modest size, Bypass Road is not like most bypasses; it is a small and reasonably quiet road. Our home is located 50 metres away from the road. The guest cottage is 75 metres from the road, and shares a border with the luxury resort Spice Village. A location photo of Bypass Road in Kumily

There is a wide range of activities available in the Thekkady area. There is a comprehensive overview on Tripadvisor. Some of the activities in Periyar Tiger Reserve should be booked in advance online at the Periyar Foundation, whilst some have to be booked in person at the Forest Department Office in Kumily. We are, of course, helpful with booking these and any other activies that require advance booking. If you are interested in yoga classes (kundalini yoga and hatha yoga) or cooking classes, we arrange these in-house.

Our cooking classes give you an opportunity to learn some of the authentic recipes of Kerala. The Kerala cuisine has remained unchanged for generations with the recipes carefully being passed from one generation to the next. The focus of our cooking classes is on the flavours of aromatic spices, herbs from our garden, and the freshest and tastiest ingredients from the local market. It is a two and half hour journey where we eat the freshly prepared food together at the end. cottage room
